Elæris

Privacy policy

Last updated 21 October 2026.

The short version

What you put into Elæris stays with you, on your phone. We do not have a server, we do not have accounts, and we cannot see your journal, your feelings or anything else you keep. We do not sell anything about you, we do not advertise, and there is no tracking or analytics. You can export everything, or delete everything, from inside the app at any time.

Who we are

Elæris is made by Sarah Marie Farr, a sole trader in the United Kingdom (her postal address is in the terms of use). She is the controller of the little personal information that reaches us, under the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018. If you have a question about this policy or your data, write to hello@elaeris-app.com.

What reaches us, and what does not

Everything you keep in Elæris is held on your phone. None of it is sent to us and we cannot open it, so we do not hold or process it. Only three things can ever reach us: an email you choose to send us, a crash report if you have allowed your phone to share them, and the sales totals Apple reports to every app maker. Each is explained below.

What is kept, and why

So that Elæris can be useful to you, it keeps these things on your phone. The answers you give when you begin, such as your name if you give one, what you would like help with, and how you like to practise. The feeling you choose when you check in, so the day's suggestion can fit it. The practices you finish, with any feedback or reflection you add, so you can look back and so suggestions do not repeat. Your journal: its words, any styling, and up to four photographs on each page. Pages you choose to keep from Gentle Unburden, and your quick lists. Practices and affirmations you save, and practices you hide. Meditations you build. What you mark in My body today, such as water and daylight. Your early signs and the days you mark them. Your settings, including text size, motion, sounds and reminder times. Gentle Patterns is worked out from your check-ins and finished practices on the phone each time you open it; it never reads your journal, Unburden or early signs.

Where it lives

On your phone only, in the app's own storage. Elæris does not use iCloud and does not copy what you keep anywhere else. That also means it does not move with you to a new phone by itself: export a copy whenever you like, so you keep it if you lose or change your phone.

Some things are about your health: the feeling you choose when you check in, the practices you finish with how they felt, your early signs, what you mark in My body today, and anything from Apple Health. Like everything else, they stay on this phone only.

What never leaves your phone

Some things are worked out on the phone and go nowhere. When you speak instead of typing, your words are turned into text by your phone itself; Elæris asks for this to happen on the device and does not show the microphone where a phone cannot do that. When you write in Gentle Unburden, a single sentence in reply, "What I hear", may be written by Apple's on-device language model on iPhones that have it. Your words are not sent to Apple or to us for this, and words that may mean you are in danger are never given to the model at all. Nothing you say or write is recorded or kept unless you choose to keep it.

Apple Health

If you choose to connect Apple Health, Elæris can read your sleep and its stages, steps and exercise minutes, time in daylight, heart rate and resting heart rate, and mindful minutes, and, only if you turn them on, your cycle days, so My body today, the Apple Health page and Gentle Patterns can show them to you, and can save the practices you finish as mindful minutes. You choose exactly what it may read and write in your phone's Health settings, and you can change that at any time. What Elæris reads from Apple Health stays on your phone: it is never copied to iCloud, never used for advertising and never shared. It is used only to show things to you.

Permissions

Elæris asks only when you reach something that needs it, and works without any of them. Notifications, for the reminders you set. The microphone and speech recognition, to speak your journal. Photographs and the camera, to add a picture to your journal; when you choose a photograph, only that one is copied into the app. Apple Health, as above. You can turn any of these off in your phone's settings.

Notifications

Reminders are optional, chosen by you when you begin or under You, made on your phone and sent only at the times you choose. They can include an affirmation each day and an invitation to write at the time you usually do; that time is worked out on your phone from when you write, never from what you write. We never send a notification because you have not opened the app, and we have no way to send you one.

Membership and payment

Membership is bought through Apple's App Store. Apple takes the payment and holds your payment details; we never see them, or your name, or your Apple Account. Your phone tells Elæris whether you are a member, and Elæris remembers the answer so it works offline. Apple gives us totals of sales by country, not who bought them.

Crash reports

If something goes wrong, and you have chosen in your phone's settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may send us a crash report. It describes what the app was doing when it stopped, not who you are or anything you wrote. We use it only to fix the fault, because keeping Elæris working is in your interest and ours, and you can stop sharing at any time in your phone's settings.

When you write to us

If you email us, we receive your email address, your name if you give it, and what you write, and use them only to answer you. We do this because answering you is in both our interests (our legitimate interests). Our email is held by Apple's iCloud Mail, which may store it on servers outside the United Kingdom, under Apple's own safeguards for international transfers. We keep a conversation for as long as we need to help you, and delete it no later than two years after your last message. Nothing you have kept in the app is attached unless you choose to send it.

Our website

elaeris-app.com uses no cookies, no analytics and no tracking. Like every website, the company that hosts it, Netlify, records basic technical details of each visit, such as your internet address, to keep the site running and secure, and keeps them for a short time under its own privacy policy. We do not use them to identify you.

Suggestions made on your phone

What Elæris suggests each day, and what Gentle Patterns notices, is worked out on your phone from what you have told it. No decision with any legal or similarly important effect is ever made about you by a machine, and none of it reaches us.

Help when things feel too much

The helplines shown are chosen by your phone's region setting. Calling a number or opening a website from that page leaves Elæris, and we are not told that you did.

What we never do

We do not sell or share your information. We do not show advertisements. We do not use analytics, tracking or advertising identifiers, and we do not follow you across other apps or websites. If that ever changed, this policy would say so first, and nothing would be switched on without asking you.

Children

Elæris is for people aged 16 and over.

Your rights

Everything Elæris holds about you is in your hands. In You, Privacy and your data, you can see what is kept, export a copy of all of it, delete any one kind of thing, or delete everything. Delete everything removes it all from your phone. Under UK data protection law you also have the right to ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to ask us to limit or stop using it, to object to our using it, and to have it given to you in a form you can take elsewhere. Apart from emails you have sent us and the crash reports above, we hold nothing, so the app's own controls are the quickest way. To use any of these rights, write to hello@elaeris-app.com; we will answer within one month. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version and the date it changed will be shown in the app, and anything important will be explained in plain words before it applies.
